Updating your Registration Information

The College Register is the official record of information relating to veterinarians registered with the College. Registrants are responsible for ensuring that their information remains accurate and current at all times.

Note: The Online Registry is a public-facing record that displays selected information from the College Register as authorized under the Veterinarians Act.

Personal Contact Information

Registrants must maintain current contact information with the College, including their email address, telephone number, and mailing address. Accurate contact information is essential to ensure receipt of College communications.

Email is the College’s primary method of communication. Important notifications, regulatory updates, reminders, and newsletters are distributed electronically and may require timely attention. Registrants should ensure that:

  • Their email address on file is current.
  • They monitor that email account regularly.
  • Emails from the @cvbc.ca domain are not blocked, filtered, or directed to junk or spam folders.

Updating Contact Information

Registrants can update their contact information through the Registrant Portal at portal.cvbc.ca. Once logged in, select Contact Information from the Account Management menu.

Registrant Name Changes

The College Register records registrants under their legal name as shown on the government-issued identification provided during the registration process. This name appears on registration certificates, annual licences, and the Online Registry, which is used by the public and third parties, including pharmacists, wholesalers, and regulatory agencies, to verify registration status.

Registrants should ensure they use their registered legal name when acting in a professional capacity, including when issuing prescriptions, signing certificates, or completing other official documents.

Legal Name Changes

Registrants who have legally changed their name and wish to practise under that name must first update their legal name in the College Register. Under Part 2, section 2.41(3) of the College Bylaws, the Registrar may update the Register upon receipt of an appropriate request and satisfactory evidence of the name change.

Acceptable official documentation includes a notarized-in-Canada copy of current piece of government-issued photo identification showing the new legal name, such as:

  • BC Driver’s Licence;
  • BC Services Card;
  • Canadian Passport; or
  • Permanent Resident Card

Additional documentation may be required to establish the link between a previous and current name, such as a marriage certificate, court-filed divorce documentation, or other legal name-change records.

Submitting a Name Change Request

Requests to update a legal name, together with the required supporting documentation, may be submitted by email to registration@cvbc.ca.
