The document below addresses public notification of all Consent Resolutions (CR) and Undertakings negotiated between Members and the former BCVMA for the five years (2005 - 2010) prior to the adoption of the new Veterinarians Act SBC 2010 c. 15 (the "Act") which came into effect on September 15, 2010.
Each of these CR's was negotiated on the basis that, unless there was a restriction of practice, the CR would not be published. The new Act requires retroactive publication of all CR's and undertakings for a five-year period prior to the adoption of the Act. Council has directed that publication of these agreements and undertakings should be anonymous.
During the five-year period prior to the adoption of the new Act, the then BCVMA satisfactorily resolved 87 public and or BCVMA self-generated complaints (advertising or fitness to practice such as drug or alcohol abuse by a member). The statistics for each of the years are as follows:
- In 2005, 53 CR's and/or undertakings were completed in 2005; this included several cases from 2003 and 2004.
- In 2006, 18 CR's and/or undertakings were completed in 2006.
- In 2007, 13 cases were completed.
- In 2008, 17 cases were completed.
- In 2009, 7 cases were completed; and,
- In 2010, 1 case was completed.
It should be noted that several cases from 2006 - 2010 were not completed prior to the adoption of the new Act, and therefore are not represented in this document. In addition, some of the Consent Resolutions were global and involved multiple cases. The number of HRAC's therefore cannot be expected to match the number of cases resolved articulated in the document below.
